Oxford is a collegiate university, consisting of the central University and colleges. The central University is composed of academic departments and research centers, administrative departments, libraries and museums. The 38 colleges are self-governing and financially independent institutions, which are related to the central University in a federal system. There are also six permanent private halls, which were founded by different Christian denominations and which still retain their Christian character.
HISTORY:-
Oxford University is the oldest university in the English-speaking world. Teaching has been taking place in Oxford since at least 1096 and developed rapidly through the 12th century. The University has played a major role in the intellectual life of the country since its early days. Over nine centuries it has been a center for debate and controversy in science, religion and the arts.During the 20th and early 21st centuries, Oxford added to its humanistic core a major new research capacity in the natural and applied sciences, including medicine.
